The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is excited to offer its newly updated Photovoltaic & Battery Energy Storage Systems Safety Training classroom course. Recognizing that energy storage and solar systems are rapidly becoming a reality across the country, NFPA has developed the Photovoltaic & Battery Energy Storage Systems Safety Training program to help the fire safety industry handle the unique challenges presented by these emerging technologies. This engaging instructor-led course is taught by NFPA’s highly knowledgeable and experienced instructors, and covers the following topics:         

  • Introduction to energy storage system & solar concepts including applications, types, and terminology
  • Basic electrical theory
  • Introduction to photovoltaic systems
  • Introduction to battery energy storage systems including lead acid, lithium-ion, sodium sulfur, and flow batteries
  • Failure modes and hazards
  • Pre-incident planning
  • Emergency response procedures

Fire Marshals, Fire Inspectors, Engine Companies, Training Officer’s and Fire Protection Engineers
