Presentation: Navigating the Relationship between NFPA 30 & NFPA 13: Sprinklers for Flammable and Combustible Liquids
This presentation will examine the interrelationship between NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, and NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems. When the quantities of flammable and combustible liquids to be protected exceed the scope of the criteria within NFPA 13, NFPA 30 must be consulted but it often refers back to all or portions of NFPA 13. At times, disentangling the application of one standard from the other can be challenging.
This presentation will outline the decision paths connecting the two standards and identify some of the areas where flammable liquids code defers to the sprinkler installation standard.
1. Participants will explain the scope and fundamental application of both NFPA 30 and NFPA 13.
2. Participants will identify common situations where NFPA 30 applies to sprinkler installation.
3. Participants will identify common situations where NFPA 30 relies on specific NFPA 13 protection criteria.
