Presentation: Fire Alarm Circuit Survivability

This program will provide an overview of the different codes that require “survivability”, the systems required by code to have survivable wiring and methods that can be used to meet “survivability”. The requirements discussed will form the IBC, IFC, the NEC and ASME A17.1. The program will provide some insight into the costs differences in the proposed solutions.

Guest Presenter: John McGovern, Encore Electric

John McGovern is a Registered Professional Engineer in Colorado and California. His career spanned 42 years, 21 years with consulting engineers and another 21 years with electrical contractors. In his time with the electrical contractors he has taught classes on Grounding and Bonding, Healthcare installations and fire alarm installations.

He has presented his “Coordinating Codes for Elevators” to the Rocky Mountain AFAA, the Denver and Phoenix Chapters of SFPE and as a webinar for AFAA. He has served as President, Treasurer and Board Member of the Rocky Mountain Automatic Fire Alarm Association. He also served a term as a Board Member of the AFAA. He has served many years on committees that write the Denver Amendments to the International Fire Codes.
