Josh will give us an update on SFPE activities and his experience as national president for this past year.
Mr. Elvove holds two B.S. Degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park (Fire Protection Engineering and Civil Engineering); a Masters of Engineering Administration from the George Washington University and a Masters in Fire Protection Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obisbo, which he completed in June, 2013. Mr. Elvove retired from the U.S. General Services Administration in January, 2013, after 32 years of service with four federal agencies, and currently serves as a fire protection engineering consultant with his own firm. Previous work also included serving as the project fire protection engineer for Parson Infrastructure at the Inchon (Korea) International Airport, and as one of the Joint Commission’s original Life Safety Code Specialists responsible for evaluating health care organizational compliance with Joint Commission Hospital Accreditation Program Environment of Care standards and the Life Safety Code (NFPA 101). Mr. Elvove is a licensed Professional Engineer in the States of Colorado, California and Virginia; and is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). He currently is the President of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and was elected a Fellow of the Society in 2005. He is a member of the Colorado Association of Healthcare Engineering Directors (CAHED) and currently serves on the NFPA Life Safety Code (NFPA 101), Means of Egress and Health Care Occupancy technical committees, and the National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code (NFPA 72), Protected Premises technical committee. Mr. Elvove’s fire protection engineering experience includes conducting life safety assessments; preparing Joint Commission Statement of Conditions; developing equivalencies and fire safety evaluation systems (FSES); designing fire protection systems; reviewing Architect/Engineer designs and contractor fire protection shop drawings and equipment submittals; conducting fire protection equipment acceptance testing; and providing life safety and fire protection education and training.
